Telangana: Experts discuss Vedic maths to quantum computing
Hyderabad:The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Telangana, held a one-day seminar on Mathematics education on Saturday. Themed “Timeless Journey: From Vedic Maths to Quantum Computing”, the event was organised to commemorate the birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan, the renowned Indian mathematician.
The seminar was organised at the SCERT campus in Hyderabad, and it saw active participation from teachers and educators across Telangana. Of the 66 papers submitted, 31 were presented during the event, and it showcased diverse approaches to Mathematics education.
The seminar was presided over by G. Ramesh, director of SCERT, Telangana. The chief guest was E.V. Narasimha Reddy, director of school education, and panelists included I.E. Vijayalakshmi, RJD-Hyderabad, Dr A. Rambabu and M.S. Ranga Chary, retired Mathematics lecturer from Warangal.
In his inaugural address, Narasimha Reddy lauded the role of teachers in shaping generations and spoke on the importance of instilling logical reasoning in students. He also pointed out the connection between Mathematics, software development and engineering, particularly its application in historical architectural achievements, such as India’s medieval forts. He called for further strengthening of SCERT’s role by conducting more research and interdisciplinary seminars.
During the event, G. Ramesh released a compendium of the seminar’s papers. A tribute to Srinivasa Ramanujan was paid by lighting a lamp and garlanding his portrait. Remembering his own school days, the director shared how a Mathematics teacher inspired him to pursue the subject in higher education. He stressed the importance of intellectual skills in making Mathematics accessible to all.
All participating teachers and paper presenters were awarded certificates for their contributions to the seminar.
