Telangana facing shortage of IAS, IPS and IFS officers as against sanctioned strength

Hyderabad: Telangana is facing the shortage of 38 IAS officers, nine IPS officers and 24 IFS officers as against the sanctioned strength.

The total sanctioned strength of IAS, IPS and IFS for Telangana is 208, 139 and 81, respectively. However, the number of these officers as on January 1, 2024 in the State was 170, 130 and 57, respectively. This was stated by the Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Dr. Jitendra Singh while replying to a question raised an MP P Wilson in Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

Wilson asked about the total sanctioned strength of IAS, IPS and IFS officers compared to the total in-person strength at present, cadre-wise and State-wise. He also sought to know the total number of vacancies in direct recruitment and promotion posts, cadre-wise and State-wise and the reasons for backlog in filling these promotion quota vacancies.

In response, Singh said the backlog in filling promotion quota vacancies were due to non-submission of necessary proposals by the State government concerned resulting in non-holding of Selection Committee meetings by UPSC, or non-availability of eligible State Civil Services Officers.

Singh shared State-wise vacancies in direct recruitment posts and promotion posts as on January 1, 2024. In Telangana 15 direct recruitment and 23 promotion posts of IAS were vacant, while one direct recruitment and eight promotion posts of IPS were vacant and 16 direct recruitment and eight promotion posts of IFS were vacant.
