Telangana farmers reap Rs 12,000 bonus Per Acre this Kharif
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed his delight at farmers earning ₹12,000 bonus per acre for cultivating fine varieties of paddy during this year's kharif season. Responding to Telangana's record-breaking paddy production of 1.53 crore tonnes in kharif this year, Revanth Reddy said on Friday that he felt immense satisfaction on seeing his efforts to make agriculture more lucrative paying off.
He also reaffirmed the Congress government's commitment to supporting farmers by offering a ₹500 bonus per quintal, in a post on his X handle.
The CM was referring to the reports that the Congress government’s announcement of a ₹500 bonus per quintal for fine ‘sanna vadlu’ paddy varieties had led to a notable transformation in cultivation patterns. Fine paddy varieties now constitute 61 per cent of total cultivation, up from 38 per cent last year.
The area under fine varieties increased significantly from 25.05 lakh acres in 2023 to 40.44 lakh acres in 2024.
Overall, paddy cultivation has grown, with the cultivated area increasing from 65.94 lakh acres in 2023 to 66.77 lakh acres in 2024. This growth is accompanied by a jump in yield from 1.46 crore tonnes last year to an estimated 1.53 crore tonnes this year.
Conversely, the cultivation of non-fine paddy varieties, or ‘doddu vadlu’, has declined, from 40.89 lakh acres in 2023 to 26.33 lakh acres this year. Farmers expressed joy over the additional income generated by the Congress government’s bonus scheme. Manyamgari Narasimhulu, a farmer from Timmapur in Medak district, cultivated fine paddy on seven acres and sold 143.60 quintals at a government procurement centre. The bonus earned him ₹71,800.
K. Praveen Reddy, from Annaram in Suryapet district, cultivated fine paddy in 28 acres, sold 625 quintals and earned a bonus of ₹3,12,500. Both farmers noted that the bonus exceeded the support they received under the Rythu Bandhu scheme.
On average, farmers are harvesting 20-24 quintals of paddy per acre, leading to an additional income of ₹10,000 to ₹12,000 per acre thanks to the ₹500 per quintal bonus.
