Telangana: Give priority to roads and NH works, Komatireddy tells officials

HYDERABAD: Roads and buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Friday said that due to the BRS government’s neglect of roads, the Centre had sanctioned small amounts to the state in the last three years. He called upon officials to shed the lax approach.

The minister was speaking after a review of the national highways along with officials. He said that the Regional Ring Road (RRR) would emerge as a boon to the state, across sectors. He told them to focus on national highways related works, including upgrading, that have been stopped for want of permissions.
He said that as regards RRR, the authorities should study every aspect. Tenders for the NH-65 (Hyderabad-Vijayawada) national highway are to be invited next month and works could start in September. The minister said that detailed project report (DPR) was ready to construct NH-645 as a greenfield highway.

He said that once works started, the state would get entertainment zones, including the likes of Disneyland, transport hubs and industrial corridors.
On the delay in the construction of Manneguda road, officials told him that as per the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) 930 trees have to be relocated and getting permissions was delaying matter.

The issue of relocation of the trees will be discussed with the contracting company on Saturday. He ordered their completion within a week.
As against the requirement of 630 hectares of land for the Armor-Mancherial NH, they have already acquired 530 hectares, officials said,

Meanwhile, on the orders of Union minister Nitin Gadkari, tenders for the Uppal-Ghatkesar flyover works have been closed and new tenders are being called.

State seeks return of vacant lands allotted to central PSUs

Hyderabad: Industries minister D. Sridhar Babu has urged the Union minister for heavy industries H.D. Kumaraswamy to return the vacant land of several central public sector units in Hyderabad to the state government, as the Centre was planning to divest those units.

He urged the Centre to revive the CCI cement factory in Adilabad so as to boost employment opportunities in the backward Adilabad district. The state government had handed over 2,290 acres of land, including 2,100 acres of limestone mines, to the Union government. He sought the Centre to stop its plans to privatise the factory.

Stating that Telangana was ahead of other states in ease of doing business, Sridhar Babu urged the Union minister to give priority to setting up industries in the state, which has surplus power, water facilities and open lands. Kumaraswamy reportedly responded positively and assured that he would visit Hyderabad shortly to discuss the issue.

Health minister asks DMHOs to ensure hospitals comply with rules

Hyderabad: Health minister Damodar C. Rajanarsimha has directed district medical and health officers (DMHOs) to conduct inspections of private hospitals to ensure compliance with the Clinical Establishments Act, 2011. This Act mandates that all private medical hospitals must register with the medical authorities, specifically the district registering authority (DRA) in each district, which holds the power to grant and renew hospital licences.

Under the Act, private hospitals are also required to submit patient records to the health department every month. Non-compliance with these regulations can result in penalties, and the health department has the authority to conduct inspections. The minister emphasised that licences of hospitals failing to adhere to government regulations should be revoked.

Highlighting the government's commitment to providing quality medical care to the poor, the minister instructed DMHOs to coordinate with private hospitals on government health service programmes. "DMHOs have a significant responsibility in delivering the health services provided by the government to the public. There should be a focus on connectivity between primary healthcare centres and district hospitals. There should be a government health centre every 30 km," Rajanarsimha stated.

The minister also stressed the importance of maintaining government doctors' attendance in hospitals and ensuring no staff shortages in government hospitals. Priority should be given to providing basic facilities and improving sanitation systems. He urged officials to take preventive measures against the spread of seasonal diseases and to ensure better diets for patients. Continuous monitoring of doctors by DMHOs was also highlighted to ensure punctuality and the provision of better medical services.
