Telangana Government to Establish Skill Development College in Every District
Hyderabad:Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy announced that the state government will establish skill development colleges in every district to enhance employability of the youth.
The announcement was made during an event organised by the National Institute for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (NI-MSME) in Yousufguda on Thursday.
The minister stressed the government's commitment to the welfare of Telangana's youth, outlining a series of measures aimed at improving their job prospects. He highlighted the establishment of the Skill University of Telangana in Hyderabad, which will begin offering admissions from this academic year.
This university, a public-private partnership, will provide a range of certificate, diploma, and degree courses tailored to meet industry demands, ensuring students gain the skills necessary for employment.
Srinivas Reddy announced that skill development colleges will soon be set up in every district headquarters across Telangana, expanding access to quality training.
These colleges are part of the state’s broader goal to make Telangana a hub for worldclass talent, attracting investors and creating job opportunities both locally and globally.
As part of the state’s efforts to modernise its education infrastructure, the government has partnered with Tata Technologies Limited (TTL) to upgrade 65 industrial training institutes (ITIs) into advanced technology centres (ATCs).
A ten-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed with TTL to equip these centers with cutting-edge technology and advanced equipment, allowing youth to gain industry-relevant skills.
"Over the last ten years, about 1.5 lakh people were trained in state-run ITIs, but with the establishment of ATCs, we aim to train 4 lakh people in the next decade," said Srinivasa Reddy. He added that the state government has allocated ₹2,324 crore for the transformation of ITIs into ATCs.
These centres will not only offer long-term and short-term courses but will also serve as technology hubs for budding entrepreneurs and industries of all sizes.
During the event, which was part of the “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign under the short term training scheme PMKVY 4.0 (Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana), the minister also took part in a cleanliness drive.
