Telangana Government trains street vendors on food safety

Hyderabad: The Telangana Food Safety Department, in its bid to bring all street vendors in the state under the ambit of the FSS Act, 2006, has begun providing basic training to them on handling food materials and adhering to basic hygiene norms.

For this, Food Safety Training and Certification (FOSTAC) training sessions were conducted in Sangareddy for 400 vendors from August 21 to 24, under the aegis of Nestlé India and organised by the National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI).

"Due to the drastic increase in number of street food vendors, there is a need to focus on regularising them and bringing them under the ambit of the FSS Act, 2006. As part of these efforts, the Food Safety Department is striving to enforce mandatory registration for all street food vendors," stated the food safety commissioner on X.

Emphasis was placed on good practices to be followed in food preparation as well as the selection of raw ingredients. At the end of the session, training certificates were issued to the vendors, along with a kit containing an apron, gloves, headcap, towel, etc. More such sessions will be held in the coming weeks across the state, said the officials.
