Telangana Govt Doctors Demand 20% Cap on General Transfers

Hyderabad: The Telangana Government Doctors Association, Osmania Unit-1, has demanded a 20 per cent cap on the general transfer of doctors in government medical hospitals.

In a press meet held at the Directorate of Medical Education complex on Tuesday, association president Dr A. Krishna Reddy informed mediapersons that the government's decision to lift the ban on the transfer of government employees would adversely the staff in the city if all of them were transferred to the districts at once. Hence, the association demanded transfer of only 20 per of the doctors at a time.

"The doctors who have served in Hyderabad for more than five years will be transferred to peripheral areas and those from other areas will be brought here. We recommend that the government put a cap of 20 per cent per station for all cadres while considering the general transfers.”

“Removing this cap and allowing more than 20 per cent (of doctors to be transferred) may lead to discrepancy in the available cadre strength across various colleges and medical institutes which will lead to disruption in patient care, as well as in the fulfillment of the NMC faculty criteria," Dr Reddy said.

He demanded that the transfers be done in a manner that the schooling of children whose parents are transferred is not affected. The association demanded that its office bearers be exempted from transfer, as well as those who are in senior positions and nearing the age of retirement.

The association recommended that the government doctors working in peripheral medical colleges be given allowance of 30 per cent of basic pay for rural areas and 50 per cent for remote and tribal areas, which will motivate them to take up these posts.

Regular promotion within the cadres of ADME, professor and associate professor should be done on regular basis as per seniority, the association demanded.

The doctors also claimed that other 'unrecognised associations' have been collecting money in the name of transfers, which the TGGDA condemned. "These associations have been creating confusion among doctors regarding transfers, giving them false promises and instigating them for agitations and protests," Dr Reddy said.
