Telangana Govt Launches Medicine Distribution Campaign to Combat Infections

HYDERABAD: Health minister Damodar Rajanarsimha said that the state government had started distributing medicines to the people in the 14 primary health centres of Sangareddy and Mahabubabad districts for the prevention of lymphatic filariasis and worm infections.

He was listing the measures being taken by the government to prevent the spread of filariasis and parasitic worm infections, at a virtual event chaired by Union health minister Pratap Rao Jadhav with health ministers of Bihar, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh also participating.

Rajanarsimha said 2,600 personnel had been trained under the supervision of the health department and 2,522 drug administrators would provide services at the grassroots level. Awareness pamphlets and brochures designed to promote the action being taken for filariasis and worm eradication were released.

At the beginning of the event, Rajanarsimha and Pratap Rao Jadhav took certain tablets to prevent filariasis and worm infestation. Rajanarsimha urged everyone to take the tablets provided by the health department.

The meeting was attended by health secretary Dr Christina Chongthu.
