Telangana Govt Revises Decision, Retains Current SSC Exam Pattern
Hyderabad:In a reversal of its decision within a day, the Telangana government reinstated the current examination pattern for the SSC public exams for the academic year 2024-25. The government order (GO), issued on Friday by the school education department, confirms that the existing system of 80 per cent weightage for external assessment and 20 per cent for internal assessment, would continue.
This cames after Thursday’s abrupt announcement of discarding internal assessment and a shift to 100 per cent external assessment, which had caused confusion and concern among students and educators.
The government clarified that the proposed shift to a fully external assessment-based system will now be introduced from 2025-26. However, the GO also states that the current grading system will be discontinued from 2024-25, with students being awarded marks instead.
This was among the other concerns that students had raised stating it might get difficult for them to adjust in such a short span.
According to student organisations, the introduction of marks could foster inequality and heighten competition.
The GO, signed by principal secretary B. Venkatesham, directs the director of school education to take the necessary steps to implement the changes.
A detailed examination schedule will be announced once the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education finalises the timetable for intermediate public examinations.
