Telangana govt seeks CWC nod for 67 TMC of Godavari water for Sitarama project
Khammam: Irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday said that irrigation facilities would be provided to 10 lakh acres in Khammam and Bhadrachalam districts through Sitarama lift irrigation scheme (SLIS) by August 15 next year.
Along with revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, he examined the trial run of the Kamalapuram pump house in Mulakapally mandal and Rajiv link canal at Enkur.
The irrigation minister said that the BRS government had taken up SLIS works without obtaining the required permissions, whereas the Congress government has procured all those permissions.
Uttam Kumar Reddy exuded confidence that the Central Water Commission (CWC) would accept the proposal of the state government for allocation of 67 tmc ft of Godavari water for the Sitarama project. He said that the BRS government had spent Rs 8,000 crore on Sitarama project but had not provided irrigation facilities to even an acre of land.
About 1.2 lakh acres under the Nagarjunasagar left canal in the district could not get irrigation as water was not available in the project. These areas would now get Godavari water through Rajiv link canal at Enkur.
Later, Uttam Reddy examined arrangements for the public meeting at Wyra where Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will launch the pumping of three motors of the project on August 15.
