Telangana Govt Sets Up Committees to Tackle Food Safety Issues

Hyderabad: In light of recent food poisoning incidents, the Telangana government has taken proactive measures to strengthen food safety protocols in institutions across the state. Two committees have been formed to ensure hygiene and accountability in food preparation and distribution.

The Institution-Level Food Safety Committee, led by the head of the institution (such as the headmaster, principal, or warden), will include two staff members. This committee is tasked with inspecting kitchens, maintaining hygiene standards, and ensuring food quality before it is served.
To address issues at a broader level, a Task Force Committee has also been established. This state-level body comprises the Commissioner of Food Safety, the Head of the Concerned Institution or an Additional Director, and a District-Level Officer (e.g., DSWO, DTWO, DBCWO, DEO). The committee is mandated to investigate food safety incidents, identify their causes, and ensure those responsible are held accountable.

The move comes amid rising concerns over the safety of food served in educational institution.
