Telangana Govt to Repatriate Mortal Remains of Deceased Dubai Worker
Nizamabad:The state government has taken the initiative to repatriate the mortal remains of a migrant worker who died in Dubai on August 2 due to ill health. Following a request from the son of the deceased, Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari sent a letter to the Consulate General of India in UAE.
Sheelam Linganna of Narsimlapally village in Birpur mandal of Jagtial district went to Dubai in 1997 in search of livelihood. After one year, his family lost contact with him. Linganna's wife died and his only son Ganesh became an adult now. Recently, Linganna was found in critical health condition in a Dubai hospital. His family members tried to bring him back but in vain. Meanwhile, he died while undergoing treatment on August 2. His son approached Gulf migrant workers activist and TPCC NRI Cell convener Sheik Chand Pasha for repatriation of the body.
Due to the lack of passport details of the deceased, Chand Pasha urged the state and Central government for the issuance of emergency passport to bring the body. Following the efforts of the state government, the authorities in Dubai preserved the body as an ‘unknown person’, without conducting last rites.
The details of the workers from Telangana working in Dubai were shared with the officials concerned for the repatriation of the body which is expected to reach home soon.
