Telangana Private Teachers Body Demands Enforcement of 2nd Saturday Holiday

HYDERABAD: Representatives from the Telangana Private Teachers and Lecturers Federation (TPTLF), the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), among others, submitted a memorandum to director of school education I.V. Narasimha Reddy, urging strict implementation of mandatory second Saturday holiday.

The delegation said many private schools have been flouting the rule, causing undue stress to teachers and students. The memorandum further demanded that all private schools follow state regulations or refrain from enrolling students in Telangana.

The leaders emphasised the immense workload on private school teachers, who often work for 8-10 hours daily without breaks, in addition to handling tasks like exam paper corrections at home. Students face excessive academic pressure, leaving little room for rest or recreational activities. Providing second Saturday leave is essential for their well-being.

Some schools reportedly conduct Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) on second Saturdays, defeating the purpose of the holiday, while others declare half-day schedules every Saturday, adding to the burden on teachers and students.

The delegation, including TPTLF state convener A. Vijay Kumar, SFI state secretary T. Nagaraju, and DYFI state secretary Anaganti Venkatesh, warned of protests if schools continue to disregard the second Saturday holiday mandate.
