Telangana HC Issues Notices to KTR on Election Petitions

HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court on Friday issued notices to BRS working president and legislator K.T. Rama Rao and others in two election petitions challenging his 2023 Assembly election from Sircilla, and directed him file counter affidavits within four weeks.

Justice Namavarapu Rajeshwar Rao was dealing with a petition filed by K.K. Mahender Reddy, an advocate and Congress candidate who lost to Rama Rao.

Meanwhile, Lagishetti Srinivas, voter from Rajanna Sircila, filed a separate election petition challenging Rama Rao’s election on the grounds that in his affidavit he had deliberately informed the Election Commission that his son K. Himanshu was not dependent on him and only his wife and daughter were.

Himanshu, who became a major on July 12, 2023, purchased four acres of agricultural land in Shivaru Venkatapur village, Markook mandal, Siddipet and 32 acres and 365 guntas in Errabali of Markook mandal of Siddipet, paying `10.50 lakh and `88,15,500, respectively.

It is not known how Himanshu had earned such huge amounts, without there being any link to his father and this information was not furnished in the affidavit, the petitioner said.

The judge heard the two petitions and issued notices to Rama Rao and other election officers.
