Telangana HC Reserves Orders on BRS Legislators’ Disqualification Case

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday reserved orders in the petition filed by BRS and BJP representatives seeking directions to the speaker of the Legislative Assembly to dispose of the pending applications before him pertaining to the disqualification of three BRS legislators who had since defected to the Congress party, including Danam Nagender, Kadiam Srihari and Tellam Venkat Rao.

BRS MLAs Padi Kaushik Reddy and K.P. Vivekananda filed petitions before the High Court as the speaker was not accepting their applications seeking disqualification of the three MLAs. They urged the court to direct the speaker to dispose of the disqualification applications submitted by them.

Meanwhile, BJP floor leader A. Maheshwar Reddy filed a separate petition seeking the disqualification of Nagender, who was elected as MLA on the BRS ticket and without resigning from the party had contested the Lok Sabha elections on a Congress ticket.

Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy heard the lengthy arguments of the counsels of all sides. After hearing for more than a month and on the completion of all arguments, the court reserved orders on Wednesday.

Advocate General A. Sudharshan Reddy submitted on behalf of the state government, secretary of the speaker and office of the speaker. Senior counsels Mayur Reddy, Sri Raghuram and Ravi Shankar argued on behalf of the defected MLAs. Supreme Court advocate Aryama Sundaram and senior counsel Gandra Mohan Rao argued on behalf of the petitioner BRS MLAs.
