Telangana HC seeks info on repairs at Women’s College

Hyderabad: A two-judge bench of the Telangana High Court directed the director, department of heritage, Telangana government, to file a fresh affidavit mentioning the nature of the work performed after August 2023 with regard to restoration works carried out in the Women’s College Campus, which house heritage structures.

The bench comprising acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Renuka Yara treated a letter addressed by Vasanta Sobha Turaga as a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition. It is stated that Hashmat Gunj Gate — having an insignia of the East India Company on Badi Chowdi road at Kabootar Khana in Sultan Bazar — is standing in poor condition.

Due to lack of repairs, the condition of the Western Wing deteriorated over the years and collapsed. It is also stated that petitioner wrote many letters to the respondents requesting them to comprehensively repair and restore all historic structures and also prepare assessment reports for the allotment of budget.

The petitioner prayed the High Court to declare the former British Residency Complex as a protected monument on par with the Lucknow Residency and to direct the authorities to take up immediate repair of the monument and restoration works of the historic structures.

Earlier, the court directed the respondents to file a status report. The counsel for the respondent drew attention to an affidavit filed on August 4, 2023 in which certain photographs were shown to highlight that some work had taken place.

The court also directed the counsel to file a fresh affidavit mentioning the nature of the work performed after August, 2023, and the current status with relevant photographs within three weeks.

EO’s appointment to Uppal temple challenged

Justice Nagesh Bheemapaka of the Telangana High Court on Wednesday took up a plea challenging the appointment of executive officer to Shri Mahakali Temple at Uppal main road.

The temple chairman challenged the proceedings issued by the endowments department commissioner, appointing an executive officer to look after the day-to-day affairs of the temple.

The petitioner sought a declaration against the appointment under the Telangana Charitable and Hindu Religious Institutions and Endowments Act as illegal and in violation of the Constitution. The judge admitted the plea and directed the authorities to file their response.

Businessman complains against Alwal zone police

Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy of Telangana High Court took on file a writ plea challenging the actions of Cyberabad police commissioner, in failing to consider a complaint and transferring the investigation from one police station to another.

The judge was hearing a writ plea filed by Sri Bodas Chander, a businessman, alleging that despite submitting a complaint, the police authorities refused to consider his complaint.

The petitioner alleged that he was summoned by the deputy commissioner of police, Alwal zone, and threatened him to withdraw his complaint failing which he would be implicated in a false case.

The petitioner also alleged that his request for transfer of investigation in an FIR from Basheerabad police station to another police station for ensuring a fair and impartial investigation was not considered.

The government pleader appearing for the respondent authorities sought time to get instructions in the matter. Accordingly, the judge posted the matter for further adjudication.

PIL seeks safeguarding Tungakunta lake

A two-judge bench of the Telangana High Court directed the state government to file its response in a public interest litigation (PIL) on illegal encroachments at the Tungakunta lake and safeguard it.

The bench, comprising acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice G. Radha Rani, was dealing with the PIL filed by Bandaru Shekaraiah and 55 farmers. The petitioners argued that the authorities were not removing illegal encroachments near Tungakunta lake and Naksha road of Mekaguda village, Nandigama mandal of Ranga Reddy district pursuant to the joint inspection and order issued by the Pollution Control Board.

The petitioner sought a direction against the official respondents to take action against the officers for not following the guidelines and licensing conditions. The court on Wednesday directed the parties to file their response and posted the matter to February 28.
