Telangana Health Minister warns stern action if hotels supply unhygienic food

Hyderabad: Health Minister C Damodar Rajanarasimha here on Tuesday warned that stern action would be taken against hotels that supply unhygienic and sub-standard quality food to customers.

Interacting with hotel owners at a meeting convened with them, he asked the owners to accord top priority to quality and hygiene. The meeting with the owners was organized in the wake of reports that several hotels were found to be supplying unhygienic food ignoring safety norms and putting the lives of customers at risk.

The Minister said Hyderabad biryani has recognition across the world and added that plans have been chalked to make Hyderabad a hub for medical tourism.

“As we are making efforts to enhance the image of Hyderabad as a food capital of India, it is the social responsibility of owners to ensure supply of quality food to customers,” he said adding that workshops and awareness programmes would be conducted every six months for the owners highlighting the need for supplying quality food.

He responded positively when a few hotel owners brought to his notice about the problems being faced by them.

Members of Telangana State Hotels Association, National Restaurants Association, Oil Merchants Association, Management of Bars and Restaurants Association, Indian Dairy Milk Products Association, Telangana Packaged Drinking Water Association and Telangana Bakery and Ice-Creams Association attended the meeting.
