Miss Asia International and Telangana ikat brand ambassador Rashmi Thakur makes her debut at the 79th Cannes Film Festival in France wearing a Pochampally ikat sari on Thursday.
Nalgonda: Miss Asia International and Telangana ikat brand ambassador Rashmi Thakur made her debut at the Cannes Film Festival, wearing a 200-year-old Pochampally ikat handwoven by Telangana weavers.
She represented India on the red carpet, presenting a look themed “Pochampally to Cannes”, highlighting the Geographical Indication-tagged handloom from Telangana at the global event.
The ensemble was complemented by Hyderabadi pearls, associated with the legacy of the Nizams, styled to match the ikat weave.
Speaking from Cannes, Thakur said: “Walking the red carpet is not just a personal debut. This is Telangana’s debut. This is for every weaver in Pochampally whose threads hold 200 years of history. Pairing our handloom with Hyderabadi pearls is my tribute to the craftsmanship of India.”
The 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is being held from May 13 to 24. The appearance highlights Indian handloom and traditional jewellery on an international platform.
