Telangana Launches 'Common Diet' to Boost Nutrition in Gurukuls

KARIMNAGAR: The Telangana government launched the ‘Common Diet’ programme to ensure quality and nutritious meals for students in Government Gurukul Residential schools, said Government Chief Whip MLA Aadi Srinivas while distributing cosmetics to the students. He ate with students on Saturday at the Telangana Minority Residential School in Vemulawada.

Speaking at the event, Srinivas criticised the previous BRS government for not adjusting diet and cosmetic charges despite rising commodity prices. He highlighted that under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s leadership, diet charges have increased by 40 per cent and cosmetic charges by 200 per cent. Specifically, diet fees for classes 3-7 rose from ₹950 to ₹1,330, Classes 8-10 from ₹1,100 to ₹1,540, and intermediate to PG levels from ₹1,500 to ₹2,100. Cosmetic charges increased from ₹55 to ₹175 for classes 3-7 and from ₹78 to ₹275 for classes 8-10.
Srinivas urged teachers to nurture students' hidden talents and directed officials to facilitate the smooth implementation of the Common Diet programme, ensuring the provision of quality food according to the standardised menu. He also announced plans to enhance educational quality, including the establishment of an integrated school on 25 acres in Vemulawada.
