Telangana Minister Defends ₹2 Lakh Crop Loan Waiver Amid Allegations
SURYAPET: Minister for irrigation and civil supplies N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Saturday said Opposition parties were levelling false allegations on the Rs 2 lakh crop loan waiver, which the government had completed on August 15. He said the scheme would cover all farmers with crop loans of up to Rs 2 lakh.
Speaking at a programme held at Kodad to create awareness, he said the farmers whose crop loans were not waived should contact the local agriculture extension officer and mandal agriculture officer with their Aadhaar card. The amount was not credited in some cases where there were misspellings and mistakes, he said. He said farmers should correct the names in Aadhaar cards to the one mentioned in the bank accounts.
Earlier, addressing Congress social media workers, he said the Congress government was committed to fulfilling its promise of crop loan waiver and showed its sincerity on the welfare of farmers. He asked farmers, if any of them did not receive crop loan waiver due to technical problem, should contact officials of the agriculture department.
He asked the party’s social media teams to widely publicise the welfare schemes of the Congress government in social media. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has restricted mainstream media, but the publicity on social media has shown its impact on the Lok sabha elections. BJP was expected to win 400 Lok Sabha seats, but the figure came down to 240, he said.
Stating that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi would definitely become Prime Minister after the 2029 Lok sabha elections, he asked Congress workers to work towards the goal from now.
