Telangana nurturing GCC ecosystem well: Experts

Hyd offers cost advantage, talent and value arbitrage to companies

Hyderabad:Hyderabad is rapidly establishing itself as a premier destination for Global Capability Centres (GCCs), driven by proactive government policies and a strong talent pool, said industry leaders.

Speaking at a panel discussion on ‘Life sciences GCCs — From cost arbitrage to value arbitrage’, held as part of the industry event BioAsia, John Dawber, corporate vice president and managing director – global business services, Novo Nordisk, praised the state’s initiatives. “Telangana’s consistent policy support and business-friendly environment have been key enablers for companies like ours to expand and innovate,” he said.

He emphasised that Hyderabad offers not just cost advantages but also a strategic talent pipeline.

Siva Kumar Padmanabhan, managing director and head of Global Innovation Technology Centre, AstraZeneca India, echoed this sentiment, highlighting Hyderabad’s growing appeal for global enterprises. “We are not merely looking at a lift-and-shift approach. There is significant change management involved. The government’s efforts in building infrastructure and fostering collaboration between academia and industry have been crucial,” he noted.

Mohit Dhingra, managing director and head of business insights and technology, Bristol Myers Squibb, pointed out that Hyderabad’s vibrant ecosystem allows companies to operate at a global scale. “The city has evolved into a technology powerhouse, and with continued support from the Telangana government, we can ensure global-quality delivery from here,” he said.

“It’s not just about hiring; it’s about institutionalising a regional way of life that gives employees a sense of purpose. Hyderabad’s ecosystem enables this by providing a high quality of life and professional growth opportunities,” said Phani Mitra B, global CIO and CDO, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories. He stressed the importance of talent retention and cultural integration.

Puneet Chopra, head of data, digital and technology, Takeda, emphasised collaboration as a key factor for success. “Even with functional teams spread across different locations, Hyderabad’s ecosystem enables efficient cross-team collaboration, helping accelerate common business initiatives,” he stated

Rajiv Onat, India head, digital technology and engineering, Regeneron, acknowledged Telangana’s role in creating a sustainable and scalable GCC hub. “We want to ensure we get the foundational aspects right before scaling up. The government’s long-term vision aligns with our growth strategy,” he said.
