Telangana Officials on Alert As Heavy Rains Hit Warangal

Warangal: The district administration on Sunday asked officials of all departments to be on alert and available 24x7 following heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning in many parts of Mahbubabad, Bhupalpally and Jangaon in the united Warangal district on Saturday night.

Several lakes and tanks in Kesamudram, Guduru, Nellikuduru, Garla, Bayyaram, Kuruvi Devaruppala and Palakurthy mandals were overflowing with floodwater.

The overflow from the bridge on to the roads in the outskirts of Ravirala village brought vehicular movement to a grinding halt between Mahbubabad and Nellikuduru mandals, Mahabubabad and Guduru and Thorrur and Kuruvi mandals.

With many trees and electric poles getting uprooted by gusty winds following heavy rain that lasted for over two hours in Bayyaram mandal, there was no power supply in many adjoining villages. Added to that floodwater entered houses in Jagna thanda and RTC colony.

A 44-year-old woman farmer, identified as Ponaganti Sulochana, was killed by a lightning strike when she was working in the fields. Three others were injured in Shyamnagar village of Bhupalpally manal.

Thunder and lightning strikes were also reported in Satyanarayanapuram of Bayyaram mandal and Kamareddy Gudem of Jangaon district.

Meanwhile, with more heavy rains predicted by the meteorological department, superintendent of police Sudheer Ramnath Kekan has put on alert department officials, who are inspecting the water flows in lakes and tanks to prevent untoward incidents.
