Hyderabad: The Telangana State Election Commission (TGSEC) is all set to conduct panchayat elections for 12,732 villages after finalising the reservations for BCs by the recently-formed dedicated BC Commission.
Sources on Monday said that the election commission was prepared. Still, the dedicated BC Commission is yet to decide on finalising BCs reservations in local body elections following the Apex court directions.
“The state government is conducting a caste census across the state. However, the latest census will not take into consideration the BC reservations in local body elections. The decision by the dedicated BC Commission headed by retired IAS officer Busani Venkateswara Rao will be final," sources added.
The state government is also planning to conduct panchayat elections by the end of January. The TGSEC is expecting that the BCs reservations issue would be finalised by December by the dedicated panel.
