Telangana police recover 30,049 stolen and lost mobile phones in 13 months

Hyderabad: Telangana police has successfully recovered as many as 30,049 mobile devices since the launch of CEIR portal on April 19, 2023, registering second rank in the country.

The CEIR portal was developed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to curb the menace of mobile theft and counterfeit mobile devices CEIR portal was officially launched nationwide on May 17, 2023 and was started on pilot basis in Telangana State from April 19, 2023.

In Telangana, Additional Director-General of Police, CID is designated as a nodal officer for CEIR portal. The portal is operated in all 780 police stations of Police Units of Telangana.

The then ADG CID Mahesh Bhagwat was first State-level nodal officer, who streamlined mobile recovery within the State and outside too. Currently ADGP, CID Shikha Goel monitors the progress of work under CEIR portal as a result of which 30,049 lost or stolen mobile devices were recovered, of which the last 1,000 were recovered in nine days and handed over to complaints. On an average, 76 mobiles are recovered per day in the State.

In Telangana, the maximum recoveries have been made by Hyderabad Commissionerate with 4,869 mobile devices, followed by Cyberabad Commissionerate with 3,078 and Rachakonda Commissionerate with 3,042 mobile devices followed by Warangal Commissionerate with 1,919 Nizamabad with 1,556

To enhance user friendliness and serve the citizens of Telangana more efficiently Telangana police in coordination with DoT has successfully integrated CEIR portal with TS Police Citizen Portal. The citizens are requested to utilize this service on the TS Police Citizen Portal for reporting lost or missing mobile devices.

Dr. Lavanya, SP, Cyber Crime, CID, in coordination with DOT officials, including Hemant Rathwe, DDG Security, M. Arvind Kumar, Director Security, Lakshmana Kumar K, Assistant Director (Security Audit), and Ch. Suresh Babu, Inspector of IT Cell, CID, is overseeing the implementation of the CEIR application in the State.

Mahesh Bhagwat who is now Additional Director-General of Police (ADG), Railways and Road Safety and ADG CID appreciated SP Cyber Crime and team for successful recovery of 30,000 mobile phones in 13 months.
