Telangana Police Warn Citizens About Jumped Deposit Scam

Jumped Deposit Scam
Hyderabad: Telangana police have issued a warning regarding a new cyber scam targeting UPI (Unified Payments Interface) users, called the "Jumped Deposit Scam." According to authorities, fraudsters are depositing small amounts of money into victims' bank accounts and then convincing them to return larger sums.
The police advise citizens not to check their bank balance immediately after receiving an unexpected deposit, and caution against responding to any calls from individuals claiming to have made the deposit. Victims often fall for this scam after entering their UPI PIN to verify the balance, which allows fraudsters to steal large sums of money from their accounts.
In the scam, fraudsters deposit a small amount, such as ₹50, and then contact the victim, asking them to return a larger sum. When the victim opens their banking app and enters their UPI PIN to check their balance, the fraudster sends a fake payment request. If the victim authorizes the request, they unwittingly transfer a larger amount, leaving the fraudster with the difference.
Police warn that fraudsters may steal lakhs of rupees by taking advantage of this scheme.
