Telangana: Protesters Occupy Miyapur Land Over 2BHK Housing Denial
Hyderabad: Dozens of people from Hyderabad’s neighbouring districts have thronged to a disputed land parcel measuring around 600 acres at Miyapur village under Serilingampally mandal, protesting against the previous BRS government’s failure to allot 2BHK houses to them.
The Supreme Court had ordered a status quo in the disputed land at a prime location, which is worth several thousands of crores and barging into this land is, therefore, illegal. Earlier, the state government booked cases against two companies — Trinity Infraventures and Suvishal PowerGen — for trying to encroach this government land, which is under control of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).
Initially, some people, who are not the residents of Miyapur, entered this land on Thursday. A day later on Friday, several people from the neighbouring districts encroached the land and built a temple, temporary houses and set up stalls. They also started arrangements to cook food.
“We were promised houses by the BRS government, but nothing was allotted even on paper. We will build our houses right here on this land,” said one of the protesters, who refused to tell his name and other details.
Police also reached the spot but they are awaiting further orders.
