Hyderabad: A RMP (rural medical practitioner) administered an injection that resulted in a severe adverse reaction, leading to the patient developing paralysis in his legs. The patient, 55-year-old farmer Maddikunta Rajayya has been admitted to Karimnagar Government Hospital.
Following a complaint filed by Rajayya's son, the Telangana Medical Council (TGMC), the collector and district medical and health officer conducted an inspection at the premises of the RMP, Goguri Venkatesh of Kanagarthi village of Odela mandal, Peddapalli.
Dr Bandari Raj Kumar of the TGMC and his team conducted a surprise inspection in Kanagarthi. Upon inquiry, Rajayya revealed that he has been unable to move his legs for 20 days after Venkatesh administered the injection.
Further investigation uncovered that Venkatesh was admitting patients, providing beds and administering intravenous doses without any proper qualification. Dr Raj Kumar urged people to be cautious about their health and to be more informed to prevent seasonal diseases. He also highlighted the dangers posed by unqualified RMPs in villages, who perform treatments beyond their expertise for financial gain, endangering many lives.
Further action will be taken against Venkatesh after the TGMC vigilance officer visits the place and a case will be booked under Sections 34 and 54 of the National Medical Commission Act.
