Telangana: Rs 1,000 Crore Allocated for High Court Buildings in Budvel, Says Sridhar Babu
Hyderabad: IT and industries minister D. Sridhar Babu announced that the state government had allocated Rs 1,000 crore in the Budget for constructing High Court buildings on the 100-acre site at Budvel near Rajendranagar.
Speaking in the Assembly session on Friday, during a discussion on the Telangana Civil Courts Amendment Bill, 2024, Sridhar Babu assured that the agriculture university’s research work would not be affected by the land transfer for the new High Court buildings and offered to allocate 200 acres of alternative land for the university's research activities.
Sridhar Babu stated that the government would not implement new Central laws without ensuring that they do not infringe on freedom of expression and civil liberties. He said this while referring to the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhitha.
He noted that the Congress leaders faced major challenges when protesting under the previous BRS government, which often resulted in house arrests. He assured that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who also oversees the home portfolio, does not interfere with police duties and any reported police excesses would be thoroughly investigated.
The government was planning new laws to combat cyber fraud and was committed to addressing the backlog of 8,91,598 pending cases in district courts by filling vacant posts.
Lastly, Sridhar Babu urged Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar to take strict action against social media posts that tarnish the dignity of minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka.
CPI MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao called for prioritising the filling of judicial vacancies to reduce case pendency. He criticised the current Congress government for continuing the BRS-era practice of restricting protests and denying permissions for meetings by civil liberties groups.
