Six held for impersonating CM's advisor

HYDERABAD: The Malkajgiri special operations team (SOT) and Keesara police apprehended six persons for allegedly impersonating Chief Minister’s advisor Vem Narender Reddy and cheating seven persons in the education department for Rs 1.29 crore.

Police identified the accused as Anugu Surender Reddy, Merina Rose, Bolugula Anjaiah, Banda Venkatesh, Katravath Gopal Nayak, and Anugu Harshini Reddy. Surender Reddy would impersonate Narendar Reddy, police said. The gang cheated people with promises of securing favoured postings, allotment of 2BHK flats at Cherlapally and jobs at the Food Corporation of India.

Police recovered 98 fake 2BHK allotment orders, two duplicate stamps of the Keesara revenue development officer, eight mobile phones, and Rs 1.97 lakh in cash. Police said Surender Reddy would contact the victims over the phone, pretending to be the CM’s adviser. He would collect Rs 7 lakh from each target to secure transfers to their choice of places within Ghatkesar police station limits.

Police said Surender Reddy had the contract for serving mid-day meals in government schools and had contacts with the mandal education office. He has also been booked for cricket betting and illegal gaming.

In another case involving the same gang, Merina Rose approached a city resident, and later introduced her to other members of the gang including Surender Reddy who promised a 2BHK flat on her name for Rs 2.5 lakh. The victim, along with a relative, paid Rs 5 lakh to the accused.

In another case, the accused cheated two persons to the tune of Rs 18.5 lakh, in the guise of getting them a job at the Food Corporation of India.

Ravutla forest section officer suspended for encroachment of forest land in Jangilodi Thanda

Nizamabad: The government on Tuesday placed under suspension Vasant Rao, Ravutla forest section officer of Sirikonda mandal, and base camp employee Narender for the encroachment of forest land in Jangilodi thanda. Officials had removed crops from encroached forest land on Monday, which sparked an attack by locals. Following this, the two personnel were suspended, and the police registered a case.

Hyderabad: Heavy vehicle rams into ORR near Kollur

Hyderabad: A heavy vehicle rammed into the cycle track on the Outer Ring Road near Kollur at around 5 am on Friday, the latest of more than 10 accidents that have damaged the facility at several places since its inaugural in October last year.

No one was injured in the latest incident. According to maintenance personnel of the track, the driver of the accident vehicle was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

Four beams, two columns and two foundations, 36 solar panels, and 24.5 metres of roof portion were damaged in addition to two column lights and four profile lights.

“I request the authorities to speed up the process of setting up crash barriers before an untoward incident is reported,” said Ravi Sambari, co-founder of Hyderabad Cycle Revolution.

Fire in Paradise Hotel damages motor vehicles

Hyderabad: Several two-wheelers were damaged partially after fire broke out from the cellar of the Paradise Hotel located at Secunderabad on Friday. No one was injured in the mishap.

Fire service staff said they received a call from a passerby who reported the fire at the hotel. Fire tenders were dispatched to the spot, but the staff doused the flames before they arrived. Officials said fire and smoke had emanated from the generator, which had caused the alarm.

Upon noticing the smoke, customers started vacating the restaurant, sources said.


Youth found in pool of blood due to self-afflicted injuries

Hyderabad: A 22-year-old suffered injuries after he hit himself with a liquor bottle at Rahmathnagar, Madhuranagar police said on Friday, denying reports that it was an attempted murder.

Police said that at about 7.45 am on Friday, they received a call about a person lying in a pool of blood, and footwear and a blood-stained cloth lying nearby. Madhuranagar police reached the spot and after questioning locals said it was an incident of self harm. Police also analysed CCTV camera footage.

Police said at between 1.30 am and 2 am on Friday, one Varshith of Rahmathnagar hit his right leg with a liquor bottle and sustained a deep cut which began bleeding. His two friends took him to a local clinic for treatment and then dropped him at his home at Rahmathnagar.

He was shifted to a private hospital at Ameerpet by his mother for better treatment and brought back home. Police said that rumours were created that the person was found murdered but that was not the case.
