Telangana State on the Boil: Mancherial Records 47.2°C

Hyderabad: Telangana experienced its hottest day of the year on Thursday, with temperatures soaring across the state. Bheemaram in Mancherial district emerged as the hottest spot, recording a staggering 47.2 degrees Celsius, surpassing the previous high recorded in the first week of May. This extreme heat wave has gripped north and east Telangana, leading to severe discomfort and issue of health advisories.

The city also faced intense heat, with the maximum temperature reaching 43.3°C at the GHMC zonal office in Uppal. The citywide data indicated similarly high temperatures-43.0°C in Azampura, Malakpet, and Mallapur.

Several districts recorded temperatures exceeding 45°C. Bhadradri Kothagudem registered 47.1°C in Garimellapadu, closely followed by Peddapalli at 46.7°C in Kamanpur, KomaramBheem with 46.5°C in Kuchchaveli, Khammam at 46.3°C in Pammi, Nalgonda where Madugulapally reported 45.9°C, Jaina in Jagtial 45.6°C and Mulugu’s Alubaka 45.5°C.

Suryapet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri and Jayashankar districts also experienced temperatures above 45°C. Nirmal’s Buttapur recorded 45.1°C and Kamareddy's Kollur saw 44.7°C. Even traditionally cooler areas like Hanumakonda and Warangal faced temperatures exceeding 44°C.

Weather experts predict that the sweltering conditions will persist for the next three days. The southwest monsoon is expected to bring some respite, with its arrival in Telangana likely between June 9 and 13. This annual weather pattern follows its onset over Kerala, which the IMD predicts will occur by Friday, with a model error margin of four days.

Normally, the monsoon reaches Telangana within two weeks of its onset in Kerala. Last year, the monsoon hit Kerala on June 8 and arrived in Telangana between June 13 and June 17. In 2022, it reached Kerala by May 29 and Telangana between June 8 and June 15.

The anticipation of super storms in south and central Telangana post-June 1 offers hope for the parched regions, though north Telangana may continue to experience isolated to scattered rains, maintaining high temperatures in the process.
