Telangana : T-JUDA stages dharna in front of MGM
Warangal: Junior doctors at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital condemned the rape and murder of a 32-year-old post-graduate trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata and staged a dharna demanding justice here in front of the hospital in Hanamkonda on Wednesday.
As part of the bandh call given by the Telangana Junior Doctors Association (T-JUDA), the junior doctors at MGM boycotted the Out-Patient (OP) medical services and demanded the state and central governments to provide security to junior doctors working at various hospitals.
Speaking on the occasion, junior doctors of MGM alleged that the trainee doctor was tortured and brutally murdered after being raped by more than 10 persons which is very horrible to even listen. Since it happened to one of the doctors, all the doctors working in various government and private hospitals came out and started agitation.
What is the situation of some girls and women who are facing such horrible incidents that are not coming to light, why the governments are not taking proper actions and not implementing strict laws to protect women in the country, they questioned.
Even at the MGM, there is no safety for female doctors working in the hospital. Many are working in panic situations, especially during night hours with no lights in and around the hospital, with CCTV cameras not working and no proper security arrangements in the hospital.
In emergency, when female junior doctors must visit various departments in the hospital, they are afraid to attend to the patients. Since people from outside are freely entering and roaming in the hospital.
“Some of the seniors used to tell us that we should take different paths at night to attend to the patients in different wards as it would be better for us and help us in protecting from the people who are constantly keeping an eye on us and watching our movements frequently,” they said.
Junior doctors are facing a lot of problems in the absence of basic facilities in the hospital and with no safety to them. They cannot even go out to drink water fearing such kinds of incidents. The government must take immediate steps for providing safety and security to not only female doctors but also women and girls present across the state, they demanded.
Meanwhile, with junior doctors boycotting the OP services, many patients who visited the MGM hospital complained of being turned away from the hospital.
