Hyderabad: Health minister C. Damodar Rajanarsimha agreed to enhance security measures in government hospitals by deploying Special Protection Force personnel and conduct regular security audits, following a meeting with representatives of Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJUDA). A revised GO on the matter will be released by Wednesday, he said.
In the wake of the recent incident of rape and murder of a PG doctor in Kolkata, Rajanarsimha called for arrangements for the protection of women doctors, nursing staff and teaching staff in hospitals.
Rajnarsimha said that the issue of lack of duty rooms and restrooms would be taken up on priority. He also agreed to the installation of CCTV cameras and a security audit to be conducted in hospitals, with JUDA members included in the committees.
In a meeting with officials of the department of public health and Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad, Rajanarsimha directed them to take steps to provide additional services like security, sanitation, diet and laundry services in the hospitals under their control.
A task force committee has been directed to visit the hospitals and submit a report every 15 days on the condition of hospital buildings and the attendance of staff. The minister directed the officials to take steps to ensure that the salaries of the staff working in the hospital are paid every month.
Meanwhile, Rajanarsimha responded to a request made by the mother of a 25-year-old girl, who was injured in a fall and was admitted to Gandhi Hospital. The mother posted on social media that the neurosurgeon who was on strike at that time, and sought help. On Monday, she was provided with adequate treatment after Rajanarsimha’s intervention.
A statement said the patient was found with her chest was filled with blood, multiple pelvic bones and left leg fractured. Her lower limbs were not working, probably due to a spinal cord injury, said a statement from Dr K. Srinivas, head of the department of neurosurgery, Gandhi Hospital.
