Telangana to Get Two New Municipal Corporations, 12 Municipalities
Hyderabad: In a move aimed at fostering urban development, the Telangana government has approved the formation of two municipal corporations and 12 municipalities, official sources said. A notification to this effect will be issued in a day or two.
Subsequently, the state’s urban landscape will expand from its 13 municipal corporations and 141 municipalities.
Mahbubnagar and Mancherial would be upgraded to municipal corporations. The new municipalities were: Kohir, Gaddapotharam, Gummadidala and Isnapur (Sangareddy district); Kesamudram (Mahbubabad); Station Ghanpur (Jangaon); Maddur (Narayanpet); Yedulapuram (Khammam); Aswaraopeta (Bhadradri Kothagudem) and Chevella and Moinabad in Rangareddy district.
The state government has also decided to merge several surrounding villages into municipal bodies. Six villages are to be merged with Parigi municipality, seven with Narsampet municipality, a village each added to Narsingi and Shamshabad municipalities, while six villages are to be merged with Karimnagar municipal corporation.
The proposed moves will bring uniformity in infrastructure standards and improve the quality of life for citizens across the state.
