HYDERABAD: The state government has announced a 26-day ‘People’s Victory Celebrations’, from November 14 to December 9, marking the first anniversary of the Congress government under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
The Congress government assumed office on December 7, 2023, following a decisive win over the BRS, which had held power for nine-and-a-half years since Telangana’s formation in June 2014.
The schedule and details for the celebrations were finalised during a Cabinet sub-committee meeting, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka at the Secretariat here on Saturday. “The celebrations will highlight the achievements of the Congress government in its first year,” said Bhatti, noting that the festivities will commence on the birth anniversary of India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru and conclude on the birthday of senior party leader Sonia Gandhi as well as the anniversary of the UPA government’s first announcement regarding statehood for Telangana.
The celebrations will span cultural programmes, public awareness drives and government initiatives. The grand finale on December 9 will see performances by thousands of cultural artists, laser shows and fireworks displays at Hussainsagar.
Bhatti announced that the government would use the celebrations to showcase its swift progress and the successes of its ambitious policies, particularly its Six Guarantees.
As part of the celebrations, the government will distribute appointment letters to newly recruited employees selected through the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TGPSC) and other recruitment channels.
In addition, the government will lay foundation stones for several major development projects, including the Young India Sports University, 16 nursing colleges, and 28 paramedical colleges. A foundation stone will also be laid for a new building for the Osmania General Hospital in Goshamahal police grounds.
The Congress government has committed to revive the Kamalapur Rayons factory in Warangal district with an investment of `4,000 crore, an initiative expected to boost local industry and employment opportunities. Newly formed institutions, including the State Disaster Response Force, will also be inaugurated during this period.
To further its commitment to social welfare and public health, the government plans to conduct anti-narcotics campaigns led by the police department. Police bands will perform across the state as part of the awareness programme, aiming to curb drug abuse and promote a healthy lifestyle among the youth.
The meeting was attended by minister Ponnam Prabhakar, advisers K. Keshava Rao and Vem Narender Reddy, Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari, and officials from various departments.
Bhatti emphasised the importance of meticulous planning and execution, directing officials to ensure flawless coordination for the celebrations.
The Congress government in Telangana sees this milestone as an opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to the people and highlight its vision of an inclusive and progressive state.
