Telangana to revive 600 libraries, says agri minister

Bhadradri-Kothagduem: Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao announced ambitious plans on Monday to revive 600 libraries across the state by supplying them with books and essential furniture. Speaking after inaugurating a newly constructed library building in Kothagudem, funded with ₹1.5 crore, he said the government was committed to transform libraries into vibrant knowledge centres.

Rao highlighted that the government is enhancing libraries by including not only academic and subject-specific books but also literature on contemporary issues. This initiative is intended to support job aspirants preparing for competitive examinations. He noted that thousands of students have secured jobs through TGPSC and police recruitment by utilising reference books available in these libraries.
“Ministers, including myself from the former Khammam district, are working to make Bhadradri-Kothagudem one of the richest districts in the state, leveraging its natural resources,” Rao stated.
In addition to educational improvements, Rao announced measures to provide better education and healthcare facilities in agency areas. He also revealed plans to establish an airport in Kothagudem, citing the presence of major industries such as Sinagareni Collieries, BTPS, Nava Bharath, ITC, and the Heavy Water Plant. The airport aims to accommodate air passengers and support regional economic growth.
Rao disclosed that the state government has sanctioned ₹400 crore for the construction of a ring road in Kothagudem. Officials have been instructed to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and initiate the tendering process to commence the project soon.
Further, Rao mentioned the establishment of a Centre of Excellence for Oil Farming at Garimellapadu within the district. He assured that Kothagudem would be upgraded to a municipal corporation, enhancing its administrative framework. He concluded by affirming that Bhadradri-Kothagudem district is set to become a leading example of development in Telangana, supported by dedicated elected representatives and the local community.
