State Highest At 46.5 °C, Hyderabad Crosses 42°C Again
The onslaught of summer has pushed temperatures past 46°C in 19 districts of Telangana

Hyderabad: With the mercury marching towards the 47ºC mark, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday appealed to people to take precautionary measures in view of the severe heatwave conditions forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
Nirmal district recorded the state’s highest temperature at 46.5°C, while several districts continued to remain above the dangerous 45°C mark for a second straight day. Two districts, Jangaon and Kumuram Bheem were listed under “severe heatwave”.
In Hyderabad, temperatures stayed above 42°C in several circles. Chandanagar and Hayathnagar recorded 42.4°C, while Uppal, Chandrayangutta and Khairatabad touched 42.1°C. Areas such as Jubilee Hills, Karwan, Amberpet and Serilingampally also remained above 42°C.
Expressing concern over the intense heatwave conditions particularly affecting north Telangana districts, the Chief Minister directed officials to take measures to safeguard people from the impact of extreme temperatures. He instructed authorities to ensure the availability of adequate ORS packets, uninterrupted supply of safe drinking water and continuous power supply to residents in affected areas.
Revanth Reddy directed the medical and health department to provide medical treatment to patients suffering from sunstroke and those admitted to hospitals due to heat-related illnesses. He instructed local authorities to establish ‘chali vendralu” (free drinking water centres) in urban areas.
Appealing to people not to venture out of their homes during peak heat hours and to avoid travelling in extreme heat conditions, the Chief Minister instructed Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao to continuously monitor the situation in all districts and issue guidelines to district collectors to ensure public safety during the summer season. The Chief Minister stressed the need for coordinated efforts by all departments to minimise the impact of the heatwave and protect vulnerable sections of society from heat-related health risks.
According to Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) data, Hananamkonda, Karimnagar and Peddapalli recorded 46.4°C, while Jagtial, Jangaon, Khammam, Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial and Nizamabad recorded 46.3°C. Adilabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Siddipet and Suryapet also crossed 46°C.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued yellow heatwave warnings for multiple districts over the next five days and said heatwave conditions are likely to persist across northern and eastern Telangana. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are also expected in isolated districts including Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy and Jogulamba Gadwal.
The IMD said temperatures are expected to remain in the 41°C to above 44°C range in many districts till May 24, with districts such as Khammam, Nalgonda, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Mahabubabad and Suryapet likely to continue under severe heat stress.
The IMD’s forecast for Hyderabad said the city is likely to see partly cloudy skies with temperatures hovering around 41°C over the next 48 hours.
