TG Aiming for 20,000 Mw of Green Energy: DyCM
Nalgonda: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who holds the energy portfolio, announced on Sunday that the government would introduce a new energy policy after consulting experts, intellectuals, and the public. The draft policy would also be debated in the Legislature.
The Congress government plans to launch a policy aimed at producing 20,000 MW of green energy, he said. Companies setting up industries will be required to use a percentage of green power. The government will work toward generating green power to assist these industries.
Bhatti said that the previous BRS government did not implement an energy policy. The Congress government will take steps to significantly increase green power generation to align with global environmental shifts.
Together with ministers N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Bhatti operated a switch to connect power generated at Yadadri Power Plant Phase-I to the grid. He also flagged off a train transporting coal from Ramagundam to the Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS) at Damaracherla.
Speaking to the media afterwards, Bhatti stated that Stage-I power from the YTPS was successfully connected to the grid. Stage II has already been linked, and the remaining three phases will be completed by March 2025, generating 4,000 MW of power.
He added that the state’s estimated power demand is projected to reach about 22,288 MW by 2028-29 and 31,809 MW by 2034-35. The state government was preparing to meet the demand and ensure a steady supply of quality power to the industrial, agricultural, domestic and other sectors. Telangana aims to become a national role model in the power sector, he said.
Nalgonda MP Kunduru Raghuveer Reddy, energy secretary Sundeep Sultania, MLAs Bathula Lakshma Reddy and Kunduru Jayaveer Reddy, district collector Ila Tripathi, YTPS technical director Ajay, YTPS project director Satchidananda, and other officials attended the event.
