TG offers sops for rural tourism: CM

Hyderabad:Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy emphasised that Telangana’s tourism sector should not only generate revenue but also create employment opportunities for the youth and highlighted possible new initiatives to attract tourists.
“Our state is blessed with abundant tourist attractions, yet the revenue-generating tourism wing has not developed on the expected lines due to lack of focus and innovative thinking in the promotion of tourism in the previous years,” he said, urging officials to revamp the sector for a brighter future while speaking at a review meeting.
The Chief Minister announced incentives for investments in tourism, particularly in semi-urban and rural areas. He highlighted initiatives such as introducing boat houses in Nagarjunasagar backwaters, promoting Telangana as a destination for weddings and enhancing tourism to temples and tiger safaris. He directed officials to take concrete steps to position Telangana as a top tourism destination.
The CM stressed the need to improve facilities at key tourist spots like Bhadrachalam, Saleshwaram, Ramappa, Mallela Theertham, Bogatha waterfalls, Buddhist stupas and Jain temples and make them famous with proper publicity.
When the Chief Minister inquired about the Bhongir fort ropeway project, officials reported that land acquisition was complete and tenders would soon be invited. Acknowledging delays in the process, the CM instructed officials to expedite the project while protecting the fort’s historic structures.
Finalising the state’s tourism policy, Revanth Reddy called for coordination among the forest, IT, electricity, TSIIC, medical and sports departments, ensuring that departmental policies do not interfere with each other. Priority should be given to adventure sports in the tourism department, the CM said and asked officials to take necessary steps so that foreigners coming for medical treatment should be treated as tourists without any difficulties. The CM assured increased budget allocations for the tourism sector in the 2025-26 financial year.
