TGBCL Invites Applications for New Liquor Brands

The applications will be placed online for ten days for objections, after evaluating which the applicants will be selected.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Beverages Corporation Limited (TGBCL) has invited applications for supply of new brands of liquor from local and foreign suppliers.

In a release TGBCL informed that the companies that are not registered with it should along with their application file a certificate certifying that no complaints exist on the quality of liquor supplied by them.

The applications will be placed online for ten days for objections, after evaluating which the applicants will be selected. A decision on the applications will be taken by the TGBCL in line with the government directions.

M. Kameshwar Rao, president, Association of Liquor and Beer Suppliers, was skeptical about new players entering the market as the consumers were brand conscious. “People here don’t want to experiment. So they can only resort to surrogate advertising,” he said. “Taxes on liquor being the highest in the state is another dampener.”

He pointed to the problem of the corporation increasing the rent based on sales. Importing from other states entailed a tax of Rs 90 on liquor and Rs 45 on beer, he said.
