TGPSC Adopts UPSC Standards for Group-II Exams

Hyderabad: For the first time, the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC) is adopting the protocols of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to enhance transparency and efficiency. Group-II exams, scheduled for December 15 and 16, will feature heightened security measures, including biometric-enabled OMR sheets and continuous CCTV surveillance.

Talking about these measures, TGPSC chairman Burra Venkatesham said, “We will monitor the entire process with CCTV cameras. Candidates will use biometric-specific OMR sheets, ensuring identity verification and transparency. No one except the candidate knows what is in the exam paper. These measures will eliminate paper leakages, malpractice and reinforce the trust in the examination process.”

Venkatesham, who took charge recently, assured candidates that the results would be declared promptly, a notable improvement over the delays during the 2015 notification process. He urged candidates to focus solely on their preparation, saying, “Write the exams with confidence in your merit and trust in the commission.”

About 5.51 lakh candidates are competing for 783 posts and the exams are being conducted in 1,368 centres across the state. The notification for these exams was initially released in December 2022 but faced delays due to legal challenges.

The commission overcame these hurdles by approaching the courts. A total of 75,000 personnel, including 65,000 examination staff and 10,000 police and district officials, will oversee the exercise. The question papers will be securely stored at 58 regional centres.

To further improve competitive examination processes in Telangana, TGPSC members are going to visit New Delhi on December 18 and 19 to interact with the officials of UPSC, the National Testing Agency and other organisations. “We will prepare a comprehensive report on examination standards and submit an action plan to the state government by January 2025,” Venkatesham explained.
