Three swamijis from Rajasthan held for duping hotelier in Parigi

Hyderabad: The Parigi police in erstwhile Ranga Reddy district detained three fake swamijis along with their driver from Rajasthan for duping an hotelier on Saturday on the pretext of making his gold ring double after putting it in a bowl containing holy water.

The accused have been identified as Methanath, Meganath and Revanath and their driver Rajendra Kumar, all aged between 36 and 39 came to a hotel at Naskal village in Parigi in their Bolero vehicle. After having food in the hotel, the three fake swamijis were leaving the premises without paying the bill.

When the hotel owner Sridhar asked them to pay the bill, the trio strongly objected to it and counseled him for asking them to pay the bill. They offered him to double his gold ring he was wearing with their powers. When the owner accepted, the swamjis asked him to get a bowl.

They then kept Sridhar’s gold ring in the bowl filled with water and covered it with a piece of cloth. They asked him to open it the next day. Sensing something suspicious, Sridhar opened the bowl and found that his gold ring was missing.

With the help of staff and other customers in the hotel, Sridhar owner caught hold of fake swamijis and bashed them up before handing them over to the Parigi police. The ring was seized from their possession.

Parigi Sub-Inspector M Santosh told Deccan Chronicle that a case under relevant provisions of BNS was booked against the four persons and arrested them based on a complaint received from Sridhar. Efforts were on to collect more details about the swamijis about their alleged involvement in similar offences in other States and their motive behind visiting Parigi from Rajasthan. On coming to know about it, scores of villagers came to the hotel to enquire about the incident.
