Transco boosts infra to meet peak demand
The project is also crucial in meeting the state’s expected peak demand of 17,000 MW during the summer and Rabi season.

Hyderabad: Energy secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania inspected the ongoing construction of a 220 kV substation and monopoles at Bowrampet along with senior officials on Saturday. He directed them to prioritise the project and complete the work this month, citing the urgency to meet the growing power demand in the region.
The Telangana Transmission Corporation (TGTransco) is constructing the 220/132/33 kV Bowrampet sub-station and a 220 kV transmission line from Narsapur to Bowrampet at a cost of `212.20 crore. The project was initiated due to a 25 per cent annual increase in power demand in areas such as Medchal, Bowrampet, Patancheru, Ameenpur, RC Puram, Kukatpally, Bachupally, Nizampet, Mayurinagar, Pragatinagar, Miyapur and Ashoknagar.
The existing transmission and distribution infrastructure has been struggling to handle the load, leading to power interruptions last summer.
Currently, power supply to these areas comes from substations in RC Puram, Miyapur, Patancheru and Bolaram, which is insufficient to meet peak summer demand. The Bowrampet EHT substation project was recently reviewed in a meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and is now in its final stages of completion.
Sultania emphasised that once operational, the new substation will boost network capacity, reduce strain on existing infrastructure and ensure a reliable power supply. The project is also crucial in meeting the state’s expected peak demand of 17,000 MW during the summer and Rabi season.
Key officials present at the inspection included chairmen and managing directors Krishna Bhaskar (TGTransco), Musharraf Faruqui (TGSPDCL CMD) TGTransco joint managing director Srinivas Rao, transmission director T. Jagath Reddy and chief engineers, superintending engineers and divisional engineers.
