TSMC Cracks Down on Quacks in Nalgonda and Suryapet

Hyderabad: Members of the Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) conducted surprise inspections against fake medical practitioners across Nalgonda and Suryapet districts on Thursday. The operation targeted quacks, who exploit the poor without having any formal medical qualifications.

The council registered cases under the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act, against several such bogus practitioners, who posed as qualified doctors and were engaged in unethical practices.

"The inspections revealed that the impostors, masquerading as Registered Medical Practitioners (RMPs) or Private Medical Practitioners (PMPs), were providing medical services," a TSMC member told DC, later.

Cases have been filed against 55 fake doctors under Sections 34 and 54 of the NMC Act, he said. These individuals were found to be administering antibiotics and steroids indiscriminately, performing unauthorised medical procedures and even conducting illegal abortions using improper facilities and equipment. All these can lead to serious medical repercussions, he said.

Meanwhile, even as the crackdown was underway, several fake RMP/PMP practitioners shut shop and fled, he added.

The inspection team comprised the council’s vice-president Dr. G. Srinivas, legal and anti-quackery committee member Dr. Seshumadhav and FMG chairman Dr. Srikanth, among others.
