Tummala objects Harish Rao’s comment
Khammam: Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Tuesday made it clear that he never tried to take credit for the completion of the Sita Rama lift irrigation scheme (SRLIS). Reacting to comments made by BRS MLA T. Harish Rao against him, he said that the Dummugudem project was divided into Indirasagar and Rajivsagar projects by the earlier Congress government and tenders were called for Indirasagar. The project had halted with the sudden demise of then Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy.
“After the formation of Telangana state, KCR invited me into the TRS and I joined the party for completion of irrigation projects. KCR laid the foundation stone for the SRLIS, but its works were completely stopped after the 2018 elections,” Nageswara Rao said.
The minister said the goal of his political life was providing irrigation facilities to all cultivable land in the district and he had faced several humiliations during his 45 years of political life in achieving that goal. When he joined the Congress, Nageswara took the assurance of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for completion of irrigation projects in Khammam district, he explained.
