Two Arrested In Retd IPS Officer’s Wife Murder Case Sent To Remand

Hyderabad: Jubilee Hills Police on Friday arrested two people in connection with the murder of Tanuja Ranjan, wife of retired IPS officer Vinay Ranjan. The arrested accused, Sunil Periyar and Dileep Biswakarma, have been sent for remand.

Police revealed that the robbery was planned by Kalpana, a domestic worker from Nepal employed at the Ranjans’ house, and her lover Vikas. Also, the key conspirator was a person named Sahu, lodged in Delhi prison, who gave instructions to them on how to carry out the crime.
A few days before the crime, Vikas assembled a gang including Sunil Periyar, Srujan, Netra, Sankar Lama, Ganesh, and Kanchan. Kalpana informed Vikas that Vinay Ranjan was away. On May 7, Srujan and Netra conducted a recce of the house and confirmed it was suitable for the theft.
On the night of May 8, three members of the gang entered the house while four others stood guard outside.
The intruders tied up Tanuja, gagged her mouth with a cloth, leading to her death, and fled with gold, including her mangalsutra and rings. After the incident, the gang reached Nampally railway station, boarded the Telangana Express to Kazipet, and later split into three groups to flee to Mumbai after dividing the stolen gold.
Sunil Periyar sold his share of gold to Dileep Biswakarma in Mumbai. Both were traced and arrested by Jubilee Hills Police on Friday. A search is on for the remaining accused who are absconding. Police managed to recover most of the stolen property from the house of one of Kalpana’s friends in Mumbai.
