Two held in CMR college voyeurism case; Ex-Minister Malla Reddy’s brother named in FIR
Hyderabad: Medchal police on Sunday arrested two kitchen staff members, Nanda Kishore Kumar and Govind Kumar, in connection with the voyeurism case that led to a large-scale protest at the CMR Engineering College on January 1.
Police said that the two had confessed that they had recorded videos of female students in washrooms. They were sent to judicial custody on Saturday.
The police also served notices to hostel wardens K.V. Dhanalaxmi and Allam Preethi Reddy, principal Varahabatla Anantha Narayana, director Madireddy Janga Reddy and chairman Chamakura Gopal Reddy.
The police said that the two hostel wardens were alerted by the girls about the video recording by the canteen employees but did not pay heed to their concerns and instead chose to suppress the matter, according to a release from Cyberabad police commissionerate here on Sunday.
They intentionally avoided escalating the matter to the police or the parents of the victims, the police said.
Principal Anantha Narayana, director Janga Reddy and chairman Gopal Reddy were accused of putting pressure on the wardens to ensure that the matter did not reach the police in order to protect the college's reputation, police said. They showed no interest in reporting the matter to the authorities, which emboldened and abetted the arrested individuals to carry out the voyeurism, the police said.
The authorities allegedly provided accommodation to the two arrested accused near the girls washroom, making their task of recording videos easier.
Police said the matter was still under investigation. All the five have been served notices. It has been established that the two accused targeted the hostel girls when they used the washrooms, the Cyberabad police statement said.
