Nalgonda: A man’s body was carried on the shoulders of a family member for about a kilometre after relatives said they could not afford a private ambulance in Bhadrachalam of Bhadradri-Kothagudem district.
Kadem Venkanna (42) was brought to the Government Hospital in Bhadrachalam on Sunday afternoon after suffering sunstroke and losing consciousness. Doctors declared him brought dead and shifted the body to the mortuary.
Family members alleged that they requested hospital staff to provide a vehicle to transport the body to their house in Subash Nagar after the post-mortem, but no vehicle was arranged even after two hours. They said they could not hire a private ambulance due to high charges.
With no alternative, a relative carried the body on his shoulder to the house, located about one kilometre away, at around 9 pm.
Hospital superintendent Dr Ramakrishna said he was not on duty at the time. According to the staff, the family did not wait until an ambulance was arranged.
Reacting to the incident on Facebook, Telangana Rakshana Samiti president K. Kavitha said, “This incident alone makes it evident just how drastically the situation in Telangana has deteriorated under the Congress rule. The Congress government has reduced Telangana to a state where even the deceased are denied basic dignity.”
