Under debts, family of 3 attempt suicide
Body of man fished out, daughter missing, wife rescued
Nizamabad: Unable to bear alleged harassment by moneylenders, a family of three attempted suicide at Basar Bridge over the Godavari River on Wednesday.
While the body of the man was fished out, the daughter is missing. Fishermen rescued the wife. They were identified as Uppulinchi Venu, his wife Anuradha, and daughter Poornima of Nyalkal Road in Nizamabad.
According to police, Venu took a Rs 3 lakh hand loan from Vikas and Roshan, Gunj traders in Nizamabad, and paid it with interest. The moneylenders forced Venu to pay penal interest for the delay in payment. The moneylenders allegedly misbehaved with Anuradha and Poornima.
Depressed over the incident, the family members decided to end their lives and reached Basar on Wednesday. From the Ghat-1 side, they jumped into the water.
Fishermen in the Godavari River noticed the incident and rescued Anuradha. Basar police rushed to the spot and fished out the body of Venu, while Poornima is still missing.
