Telangana Union Demands Proper Salaries to Medical Workers, Threatens Stir
Hyderabad: The state president and general secretaries of Telangana Medical Contract Employees and Workers Union MD Yusuf and M Narasimha on Sunday criticised government officials for not paying salaries due to sanitation, patient care and security workers in government hospitals.
They said the employees of government hospitals are supposed to get Rs. 15,600 as salary. After deducting the Provident Fund ESI, Rs. 13,600 is due but most of the workers get only Rs. 11,000 and even Rs 10,000 in some hospitals.
They decided to organise a protest at the Directorate of Medical Education campus in Koti on July 3 to bring the matter to the attention of the state government. They said officials have been acting in a negligent manner by calling for tenders and not paying the salaries of workers as per GO.
Despite the fact that they are entitled to four festive holidays, four national holidays and up to 16 earned holidays as per the Contract Labor Act, they are not allowed to take any leave from the hospitals. They demanded the implementation of GO No. 21.
They demanded that the harassment of workers by contractors and officials be stopped immediately. State Executive President of Telangana Medical Contract Employees and Workers Union Y Lakshmibai, Deputy General Secretary Hasina Begum, state secretaries and others participated in this meeting.
