Unsafe bursting of firecrackers to the fore
HYDERABAD: Many residents engaged in unsafe cracker-bursting practices while celebrating Diwali, People holding lit rockets in their hands, bursting crackers from moving vehicles and throwing lit crackers towards bystanders was a common sight during the grand celebrations.
Many people were seen holding rocket shot boxes in their hands, as the box was shooting rockets, with some of them participating in such dangerous activities for social media content and reels.
A video went viral on X, where people in a moving car were bursting crackers through the vehicle’s open top. Some of the crackers hit trees, while some even hit the car.
Another video of youngsters holding crackers and directing them on the street instead of the sky was widely shared on Instagram. A man was seen holding the crackers and pointing it towards his friends, while they kept running away. Several people in the comments criticised the cracker holder for his negligent behaviour.
People also threw lit crackers at those passing by. A redditor shared that some guys while on a bike threw a firecracker at their sister as she was standing at a bus stop. Replying to the post, another redditor said that some people while triple riding on a scooter threw red chilli bombs at children.
These risky practices weren’t limited to the general public; even political figures performed dangerous feats during their celebrations.
BRS leader Patlolla Karthik Reddy uploaded a video on his social media handles, where he and his friends were seen bursting rockets from the hand.
Saroornagar's BJP corporator Akula Srivani did likewise.
A user, who replied on the corporator’s video, urged her not to throw crackers at other people’s houses to which the public representative replied “Thank you.”
